There are large scale attacks in progress targeting a number of host servers in the Netherlands, this has caused 2 servers to hand so far are the other to remain inaccessible, work is being done to restore service asap.

Individual tickets will not be answered and an RFO will be sent instead.

Copy of email en-route to affected customers now:

Good Morning,

There have been a number of targeted attacks on a number of our EU servers, primarily in the Netherlands but the UK has also been hit, the attacks have been well planned and considered, while sending huge floods to various addresses attached the the servers they have also been exploiting the fact that so many customers are running old bind installations or unsecured ntp servers to amplify the effect.

This has resulted in 2 servers going in to soft lock for which the only option was a hard reset and intermittent at best service from others, once one attack was mitigated completely a new server became entirely focused, at the same time the client area and inception hosting websites were being targeted making it impossible to effectively communicate.

Work is still ongoing and new ACL’s will be engineered at a switch level to prevent future occurrences, sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused, if you have opened a ticket on the matter it will be closed due to volume and this email will be considered the reply, this email will also be pasted on the announcements page.

Please take some time when your access is restored to make sure your servers are completely up to date, if you are running bind please make sure it is not allowing recursive lookups and secure your ntpd, there are literally thousands of online guides in many languages available.

These issues have affected OpenVZ and Xen customers in the UK, Xen, OpenVZ and KVM customers in the Netherlands, 100% of services in the UK have been restored, Netherlands is at around 50% and expected to reach 100% within a few hours.

Thanks.

Anthony Smith.

Inception hosting Limited.

Update: 12:13 (CET)

The attacks are continuing to impact Netherlands based services, what can be done is being done however as access is limited it is taking a long time.
